Chapter 6 and 11 Reading Responses

Chapter 6:
Based off of the information from Chapter 6, I think that I would like to work in a classroom that has more digital technologies. I think that technology engages the students in learning and keeps things exciting. Data projectors and other devices make presenting the lesson information easier and allows for text and images to be projected in a magnified way so that everyone in the class can see what is on the board. WiFi and USB flash drives are such common items now that I can't imagine trying to teach without them. They make everything more portable and efficient for the way things work in the classroom. I would really like to see how working with mini-laptops and graphic tablets would assist in teaching. E-books would mean less textbooks in the classroom; therefore, allowing more room for helpful technology and less clutter. More technology is definitely the better way to go when teaching because it provides so many opportunities to increase learning.

Chapter 11:
One traditional audio technology I would like to use is the talking book. Students could listen to the book narration as a class and then we would stop and discuss important parts that occur as they are reading along. This activity would increase reading comprehension while also helping to improve their reading skills.
I'm also interested in using Internet Audio, which is an emerging technology. As the teacher, you could find audio clips that enhance your lesson and play them for the class. For example you could find a recording of Martin Luther King Jr. and play it for the class. This technology is a more efficient way to present audio clips because you don't have to listen to an entire recording. All you have to do is download the material that you need and use it to supplement your lesson. One must keep in mind the copyright laws in order to avoid plagiarizing or copy righting material.
A traditional technology that I would use in my classroom often is printed materials. I think that a large number of children learn best when they can actually get their hands on an object that you are discussing in class. By having the children create nonprojected visuals such as pictures or posters, children are more likely to remember the information.
An emerging visual technology that I would love to try is a document camera. I would have the children bring in their favorite plant. They could place it on the display table and use the document camera to zoom in so that the class could see the fine details. The students would describe the parts of the plant and show each part using the device. This technology could be used in so many ways, it would definitely be a helpful tool in the classroom.

I wanted to finish writing my paragraph due to the fact that I didn't finish completely in class. I'm the oldest of four children. When I was little I loved playing "teacher" and hopefully I will be able to turn that dream into a reality by studying here. :D
Hi my name is Hayley and my major is Early Childhood Education. :D My favorite color is orange. I absolutely love listening to music. That's a little bit of information about me!!!
